National & Local Kansas City Leaders to Express Support for Proposition C, The Missouri Clean Energy Initiative

Kansas City — Leaders from a broad coalition of organizations — including environmental, labor, and utility interests — held a press conference today at the River Market in downtown Kansas City to express their support for Proposition C, the Missouri Clean Energy Initiative.

“A ‘yes’ vote for Proposition C, the Missouri Clean Energy Initiative, will put Missouri on a path toward greater energy independence while improving our environment and creating jobs,” said Jim Kottmeyer, a spokesman for Missourians for Cleaner Cheaper Energy, which is promoting passage of Proposition C. “The broad and diverse coalition of interests supporting the passage of Proposition C is a clear indication of the many benefits it will provide to Missourians.”

Kansas City Council & Jackson County Legislature Put Support Behind Proposition C, The Missouri Clean Energy Initiative

St. Louis – The Kansas City Council and the Jackson County Legislature have both passed resolutions supporting Proposition C, the Missouri Clean Energy Initiative. If passed by Missouri voters this November, Proposition C would require investor-owned utilities to generate or purchase 15% of their electricity from clean energy sources, such as wind and solar power, landfill gas, biomass, and small hydroelectric projects.

Missourians for Cleaner Cheaper Energy (MCCE) announced today that the Missouri Clean Energy Initiative will appear on the November 4, 2008 ballot. The Cole County Circuit Court found that the initiative has the necessary number of signatures to be certified for the ballot in November.

Lawsuit Filed to Place Clean Energy Initiative on November Ballot

Missourians for Cleaner Cheaper Energy (MCCE) today filed suit to place the Clean Energy Initiative on the November 4, 2008, ballot. Henry Robertson, author of the Clean Energy ballot initiative, stated, “We’re confident that the court will find that there are more than enough valid signatures to place the clean energy amendment on the ballot. Missourians are ready for a change in direction on energy policy and we look forward to having this issue resolved so that Missourians can have their voices heard in November.”

Missourians for Cleaner Cheaper Energy Announces Plan to Challenge Ceritification Decision

Stating its belief that it has gathered more valid signatures than are necessary to be placed on the ballot, Missourians for Cleaner Cheaper Energy today announced plans to challenge the decision from the Office of Secretary of State that the Missouri Clean Energy Initiative stands just 526 signatures shy of the required threshold to qualify for the November 2008 ballot.
